The "T" stands for turbocharged, and the "A" denotes aftercooled (charged air cooler). This combination allows the engine to produce high power without excessive thermal stress.
The 6CTA 8.3 uses a crosshead rocker arm design. You cannot simply turn the nut until it touches. The manual specifies using a dial indicator or feeler gauges in a specific order (firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4). Incorrect adjustment burns valves or causes misfires.
