Born on July 30, 1945, in Tampa, Florida, David Sanborn grew up in a musical family that encouraged his early interest in music. He began playing the saxophone at a young age and was heavily influenced by his idol, Illinois Jacquet. Sanborn's big break came when he joined the Butterfield Blues Band in the late 1960s, which marked the beginning of his professional career. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Sanborn became a sought-after session musician, collaborating with a wide range of artists, including Eric Clapton, James Brown, and Stevie Wonder.
Much of the album's success is credited to the collaboration between Sanborn and bassist , who also served as the producer.
