The episode picks up following the crisis of the previous installment, where Ash and his friends, along with the Ultra Guardians, were facing a threat from a mysterious, dark Poipole leading a swarm of others of its kind. The dark Poipole had been corrupted by the Blinding One (Necrozma) and was causing chaos.

Ash’s Poipole, which had previously left Ash to return to its home world (Ultra Megalopolis) earlier in the season, returns to help. However, the corrupted Poipole is aggressive.
